https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xOA7dKSThWY Hey! Welcome to my fourth entry at MC Voices, today I will be showing…
This semester I have an internship with the online blog site The Mighty. When I applied for the internship, I contacted my advisor to find out how MC works with internships. I learned that MC has the Cooperative Education & Internship Program, or co-op.
The co-op program “is a three credit academic course that places eligible Montgomery College students in full or part-time jobs related to their major,” according to the MC website.
Basically, the co-op program is a class about your internship that only meets three times a semester. The co-op program is a great way to get real hands-on-experience in the field you are studying.
If you do not have an internship in mind, have no fear, because the people in the department will find you an internship placement! However, you are required to have at least 12 credits, 2 classes completed in your major and at least a 2.0 GPA.
The only flaw I have found in the co-op program thus far is that apparently not all majors accept these credits. So, if this is something you are interested in, I highly recommend talking with your major specific adviser first and making sure the credit will count.
I believe that experience is the best way to learn something. The co-op program is giving me the chance to have one of the best experiences of my life, and I hope it can give you that too.
Where will you intern?
Great info and a super way to find out if a particular type of job is for you. You didn’t mention, but I was wondering if these are paid or unpaid internships. I presumed unpaid since so many students can be placed. Enjoy your job with ‘The Mighty’!
