https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xOA7dKSThWY Hey! Welcome to my fourth entry at MC Voices, today I will be showing…
Do you know your classmates? Or do you just got to class, keep quiet, then leave? I used to be the latter. But I have come to find out that getting to know your classmates, especially at a school as diverse as MC, is pretty amazing.
When I first started at MC, I would go to class, do my work, and not talk to anyone. Luckily for me, I was in a biology class last year that forced me out of my shell and introduced me to some pretty amazing people—one girl was even an exchange student from Brazil. Because of this, I have learned to start talking to my classmates and to get to know them.
Now I know it can be a little scary to initiate the conversation so I thought I’d give you some MC conversation starters:
- What’s your major?
- Where did you go to high school?
- Where are you from?
- What do you do?
- What classes are you taking?
- What are your plans after this?
These are just a few openers to get the conversation started and you never know what you’ll learn from there. For example, this photo features my friend Art. He’s in my Comm 220 class. Art used to be a High School Counselor and grew up in Brooklyn, NY where he saw his first Broadway show My Fair Lady with Julie Andrews. I never would have learned all of this, and what an amazing person he is, if I hadn’t been open to a conversation.
Everyone has a story, and in a school as diverse as MC, you never know who you will meet. So, I implore you to get to know your classmates. You never know the incredible life the person next to you is leading until you ask.
Hey Cassidy, this is awesome, it’s always great to hear the stories that your classmates have to share.
Hi Cassidy,
Some courses of study really lend themselves to group interaction and conversation. Art classes are great for this — class critiques, walking around to see what the others are doing, and working together on complex projects. MoCo is full of very interesting students from all walks of life. It’s easy to make new friends here! Arleen
