https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xOA7dKSThWY Hey! Welcome to my fourth entry at MC Voices, today I will be showing…
In our society, unfortunately, emergency situations at schools seem to be happening more and more frequently. If you are like me, you have probably wondered what we are supposed to do in these instances.
Well, if you have been paying attention, you may have noticed some of these “What do I do during a lockdown?” signs around campus. If you’ve been staring down at your phone like I have, or maybe just aren’t the most observant, have no fear. I will walk you through the lockdown procedures now:
During a lockdown:
- Hide in the nearest room
- Lock or barricade the door
- Close windows
- Turn off lights
- Remain quiet
- Do not leave until instructed to do so by law enforcement or public safety
Similarly, don’t forget that all campuses are equipped with the “Emergency” stations throughout. If you ever feel threatened on campus, find an emergency station, press the red button, and help will be there.
Being prepared for an emergency is your best defense. Familiarize yourself with all emergency stations, exits for each of your classes, and know the best places to hide. You can ask your teacher what their plan is if there happens to be an emergency, as well.
Also, make sure to sign up for MC Alerts. This way you can stay up to date on any closures, emergency events, and other MC information.
I hope we never have to use the lockdown procedures, but if we do, at least now we will be prepared.
Great tips Cassidy and a frequent review is always warranted since in a panic, we often forget the first (and maybe the most important) thing to do! It’s also good to be familiar with where the emergency stations are.
Thank you Jane! You can never be too prepared!
Cassidy, this is such a great blog to post. I have been receiving many emails about emergencies about Montgomery College (which isn’t good at all). This post is a great reminder for students to act and be aware of their surroundings. I liked that you mentioned directions on what to do during a lockdown. Super informational and super important! Great job!
Thank you! It has been pretty scary with all the crime on campus lately so I just hope these tips are helpful!
