Today’s blog post is about the prestigious Hillman Entrepreneurs cohort program. If next year is your last year at MC and you desire to transfer to University of Maryland College Park, then this is the program for you. In this program, you are eligible for a generous scholarship and an entrepreneurial experience of a lifetime.

THE HILLMAN WAY

As a current Hillman Entrepreneur, I would like to thank the late David Hillman for starting this program and changing not only my life, but other students in this program. So what is this program about? “The Hillman Entrepreneurs Program is a three-year scholarship and educational program that supports, develops, and graduates ethical leaders who want to energize and give back to their local communities. Students complete their associate’s degree at Montgomery College and their bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland, College Park, and earn a minor in technology entrepreneurship.” That was straight from the website. My definition of this program: the program supports your desires, teaching you the basics of an entrepreneurial mindset.

This program supports students who might not otherwise be able to afford a college education, by offering community college students scholarships that help cover the costs of tuition and books and then supporting them in a seamless transfer to UMD in pursuit of their bachelor’s degree.

Program Requirements

  • Students must make successful progression towards graduation with an associate’s degree in a transferable major at Montgomery College or Prince George’s Community College and towards graduation with a bachelor’s degree at University of Maryland at College Park.
  • Students must be pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.
  • Students must be Maryland residents (US citizens, students with permanent resident status, or students covered by the Dream Act).
  • Students must have completed a minimum of 30 credits by fall program entry.  Students must have taken one transferable math course or be eligible to take a college-level math course during their first semester in program.
  • Students must have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher to be accepted and remain in the program.
  • Students must be in a program of study which transfers to UMCP (pre-law not eligible).
  • Students must be available for a daytime Hillman credit course each semester.
  • Students must be committed to additional programmatic and team-building activities outside of class.
  • Students must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

If you are currently in this program or an alumni, please share your experience.

An Open House for prospective students was planned for this past Friday, but school was cancelled. Please reach out to Professor Razavi to find out information for the new date.  Also, current students in the program will be sharing information about the program in various classes. If you want more info please contact the director Professor Rebecca Razavi at rebecca.razavi@montgomerycollege.edu

Hello, I am Bob Ndubuisi Okoroajuzie. Honestly speaking, Christ is the center of my life or at least I try to make him the center. If it doesn’t relate to Christ, it doesn’t relate to me. I became more fond of him through the reading of his word, the same way you’ll become more fond of me through my blogs. Some are surprised when I tell them things like this, or even comment saying, “Oh you’re one of those”. I sometimes laugh because this is my mindset, but I still have a good time. I know when to be serious and when to relax, so the key component in my life is balance. Loving, honesty, and amusing make up Bob.

I am currently majoring in Business at Montgomery College. My end goal is to graduate from UMD College Park Business school and attend law school (corporate law). I'm passionate about mentoring students and being mentored. Being mentored at a young age has truly helped shape me as a young man. Truly, being a student blogger is an honor. Sharing my experience at MC and providing information will benefit current and future students at Montgomery College.

Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

  1. Very great informative post Bob! When you say three years, are you at MC a year longer to complete the program or do you have three years to complete successfully?

    1. The program is 1 year at Montgomery College and 2 years at University of Maryland College Park or Shady Grove Campus.
