MC Open and the ABCD’s Of Open Educational Resources (OER)

MC OER infographic_ABCD's OER_FA16Montgomery College was awarded an  ATD OER grant to develop z-degree pathways for the General Studies Degree. For MC Open and the General Studies Program, Open Educational Resources (OER) are an opportunity to :

  1. Promote student success by encouraging faculty to redesign courses using Open Educational Reso
urces(OER) and pedagogies that engage, connect, and support a diverse range of student learning styles.
  2. Make education more affordable by reducing or eliminating required costs for course materials.
  3. Decrease time to degree completion by giving students the option of applying money toward an additional course rather than to books or other required course materials and by providing clear paths to degree completion.

The z-degree is an approach to offering a degree where students can complete the degree without purchasing textbooks.  In redesigning courses, faculty adopt, blend, customize and develop materials that will support and engage students and reduce the semester to semester and overall costs for completing the degree.
