A Piece of Infinity is Meklit’s new full-length album out in September 2025 on Smithsonian Folkways, and features powerful collaborations by virtuosic harpist Brandee Younger and soulful saxophonist/flutist Camille Thurman. A full six years in the making, this album finds Meklit reimagining Ethiopian traditional songs in her signature San Francisco Ethio-Jazz style, from classics like Ambassel and Tizita, to little-known gems like Geefata, a communal song of celebration from her father’s tribe Kembata. And being a songwriter, Meklit adds three originals as well, including Lefeqer Enegeza, a collaboration with legendary Ethiopian poet Alemtsehay Wedajo. The album title points to the fact that for Meklit, nine songs could never hold the multitude of Ethiopian traditional music. Instead, the album is just a piece of the infinite beauty and power held within Ethiopian traditional music.
