Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus construction projects. We strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this email notification. As previously noted, these update emails are sent on a monthly basis.

This notice provides information on the construction of the campus library renovation in the Resource Center, and the East Campus Garage repair for Montgomery College–and the final details on the Leggett Building.

Upcoming activities and information:

Library/Resource Center—Renovation

  • New York Avenue Entrance: Work to expand the ramp at the entrance on New York Avenue is complete.
  • Furniture Delivery: Furniture is continuing to be returned to the Library/Resource Center.

Leggett Building—Construction

  • Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Ribbon Cutting and Ice Cream Social events! These were a great celebration of an important milestone. The Leggett Building is open and in use for classes. Nonetheless, a few internal elements still need attention and will be addressed over the coming weeks.

East Garage

  • Work to repair areas of the East Garage located at Fenton and King Streets is progressing. The final phase of the project is now underway, with work occurring on the final sections of each floor in this five story structure. This work is projected to finish by the end of the month.
  • We are hoping now that work is completely interior to the structure, some of the noise will be attenuated. We’ve also installed several sound reduction blankets. This project is in compliance with the noise ordinances.
Until further notice, work will be conducted on Saturdays in addition to weekdays.
  • Traffic on New York Avenue: At the College’s request, a Montgomery County Police Officer is located in front of the Nunley Building each day to help manage traffic at the intersection of New York Avenue, Fenton Street, and Chicago Avenue and guide students as to appropriate campus arrival procedures. The College offers a waiting area for pedestrians with benches and access to WiFi and parking spaces for drivers who visit campus to pick up students in the East Garage. Once the East Garage renovations are complete, it is expected that we will see an increase in the usage of these spaces. As we have done in the past, the College will communicate to our students the appropriate arrival procedures, including a reminder about the available spaces in the garage.
