Dear Neighbors,

Since the beginning of the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Math and Science Building project, the College has sought to engage our neighbors. We are grateful for your participation, engagement, and support as MC strove to work with you to balance the needs of neighbors, students, and fiscal prudence.

When the construction phase of the Leggett building began, we created this regular email notification to help us keep neighbors informed about design matters, significant construction events, and community impacts. When additional construction activities arose on the campus, we expanded our communication to include those projects.

With the Leggett Building open, the East Garage repairs complete, and the renovation of the library in the Resource Center virtually complete, this will be the final formal Project Activity Update from the Montgomery College Team. Additionally, while the project website will remain available, updates to the site are no longer necessary.

Please be assured that communication with our neighbors will continue. The College is committed to continuing our engagement with you. Please be on the lookout for communications in your email box from the Campus Dean, Dr. Brad Stewart, regarding campus activity. Of course, please engage us—simply stroll across Campus, visit the library and/or the many programs at the Cultural Arts Center, or take a class!

Additionally, you can reach the Campus at TPFacilitiesHelpDesk@montgomerycollege.edu or call the following numbers for any campus-related inquiries or comments: for non-urgent issues 240-567-1563, for urgent issues 240-567-3333, and for emergency situations always call 9-1-1.

So, in this final notice, we offer information about the campus library renovation in the Resource Center, the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Math and Science Building, and the East Campus Garage repair for Montgomery College.

Library/Resource Center—Renovation

  • Books and furniture delivery: All shelves and books have been returned to the library. All furniture has been delivered and installed.
  • Metal roof coating: In mid-May, the metal portion of the building’s roof will be coated to prevent leaks. This work is expected to take approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Minimal noise is expected, and any odor will be minimal and local to the site. Any project traffic will continue to abide by directives related to parking and traffic flow.

  • Final Items: Barton Malow has a limited presence on campus to complete the final punch list of items. Any construction-related traffic is required to follow the directives regarding parking and traffic flow, including no access from Takoma Avenue. Drivers are routinely reminded they are required to follow the designated routes to and from the site and must enter and exit Fenton Street from Philadelphia.
  • Stormwater management: Later this spring, work is expected to be undertaken to improve drainage at the micro bio pond planters located on the outside of the building on the Fenton Street side and interior to the campus. The planters are a part of the stormwater management features installed as a component of the Leggett Building project.
  • Landscape: Additional plantings will be installed during the spring, as weather allows.

East Garage
