ynonymous with grace, beauty, and artistry, Oscar® award-winning actress Sophia Loren will captivate audiences with an intimate onstage conversation and audience Q/A. Ms. Loren will reminisce about her extraordinary life, alongside film clips from her amazing career. Born Sofia Scicolone in Rome, Ms. Loren grew up in dire poverty in the slums of Naples. She got her first taste of stardom at fourteen when she was one of the twelve contestants crowned “Princesses of the Sea” in a beauty contest—an honor that earned her a railroad ticket to Rome and 23,000 lira (about $35). While competing in another beauty contest, Ms. Loren met producer and future husband Carlo Ponti. Though she placed second in the contest, Ponti gave her a screen test and then advanced her career in a succession of low-budget Italian productions. Sofia Lazzaro, as she was then known, became Sophia Loren in 1952. Ms. Loren soon left Italy for a successful career in Hollywood, starring in The Black Orchid (1958) with Anthony Quinn, Arabesque (1966) with Gregory Peck, and Houseboat (1958) with Cary Grant. She returned to Italy to star in Two Women (1960) about a woman living in war-torn Italy trying to protect her daughter from the horrors of war. Her performance garnered international acclaim leading her to be honored with an Academy Award® for Best Actress.
