Mission

Through active listening and meaningful support, The CU serves both artists and audiences who seek to see their stories reflected on our stages.

About THE CU

THE CU cultivates learning, artistic practice, and community engagement through a programming series including music, dance and theatre, as well as college programs and community arts partners. The artist’s experience is the highest priority. THE CU contributes to the field through commissions and residencies of new work, and organizes projects with local, national, and international collaborators.

Located on the southside of the Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District and housed on the campus of Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring, THE.  CU reflects the values of Montgomery College: Empowerment, Enrichment, Radical Inclusion, and Representation (EERR).

THE CU Cultural Arts Center opened its doors in 2009 with a performance by Aretha Franklin. It awakened pride in our center as a place for talent, virtuosity, impact, and resonance.
