On January 23, the Rockville Campus celebrated the grand opening of a new parking garage. The facility has 918 parking spaces, and digital signs indicating how many spaces are available on each of the seven floors. Another modern touch will be the addition of charging stations for electric cars.
“The Rockville Campus is thrilled to open the new parking garage to serve our students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Montgomery College. The new garage will increase parking capacity significantly, will make access to the campus easier and faster, and will offer a safe, covered parking facility to serve our community,” says Dr. Kimberly Kelley, vice president and provost of the Rockville Campus.
Montgomery College public safety officers will patrol the garage, which is adjacent to the Physical Education building on North Campus Drive. Additional safety features include 59 security cameras and two emergency phones on each floor.
Dr. Mark Carmody, director of facilities for the Rockville Campus, says the garage is another way to support student success. “The garage will help alleviate challenges with parking on campus—and that’s a big deal. We want to make it easy for students to get to class on time and to be ready to learn,” he says.
Dr. Kelley adds, “Parking is an important issue for our students, so making parking more accessible is our priority. We want to thank the county and state for their support in helping us to build this important new facility.”
