Montgomery College Photographer Pete Vidal hopes to inspire visitors at the I Am Montgomery College photo exhibition at the Maryland House of Delegates office building in January 2017. “No matter the obstacle… with the right attitude, patience, and perseverance, you can succeed.” That is what Vidal learned from the student he photographed for the exhibit. The student, who suffers from kidney disease and struggles to get through classes, recently earned acceptance to the prestigious University of Virginia Darden Business School.
Vidal is one of six photographers who captured images of Montgomery College’s student body for I Am Montgomery College. John Hoover, instructional lab coordinator for photography, curated the exhibit. He says he hopes visitors will see both an “artfulness to the imagery,” as well as the diversity of the student body—with students from 160 countries, different backgrounds, and every generation.
The exhibit is especially meaningful to Hoover, who started taking photography classes at the College after a career as a contractor. He returned as an adjunct faculty member and is now a full-time staff member.
The January exhibition is the second collection; an earlier set of I Am Montgomery College photos was displayed in 2016. Some of the photos from these exhibitions will be on permanent display in the new Central Services building.
